August 26 - 28th 2001 - Late Winter Cold Outbreak brings snow to the Northern Tablelands
With just days to spring, a cold outbreak brought freezing conditions across NSW on the 26-28th August. Heavy snowfalls occured throughout New England forcing many road closures. The New England highway was closed north of Armidale on the xxth. The poor conditions stranding around 50 people at the Black Mountain Roadhouse near Guyra.
Road closures in the Nundle area east of Tamworth due to heavy falls of up to 30cm included the Thunderbolts Way between Walcha and Nowendoc, the Duncan's Creek Rd, Barry Rd at Sheba Dam, The Forest Way and Morrison's Gap Rd along will the temporary crossings of the Peel River.
